Dr. Albert Bussey

Director of Bands of the Grand Championship Golden Gator Band and served as


Fine Arts Department Head at Ware County High School for 15 years.
Mr. Bussey came to Waycross, Ga. after serving as an assistant director
with Valdosta High’s Marchin’ Cats for three years. Upon arrival to Waycross in
1991, he served as assistant director for two years with Waycross High’s “Pride of
Waycross” and in 1993 - 1994; served as the Director of Bands for Waycross High
School during the “ultimate” year of the school. Under Mr. Bussey’s leadership the
marching band received superior ratings and traveled to London, England and
marched in the 1994 New Year’s Day Parade representing the state of Georgia.
The Advanced Symphonic Band also received superior ratings at the Georgia Music
Educators Association District Large Group Performance Evaluation. His ensembles
at Ware County High School have traveled across the USA including Orlando,
Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Virginia Beach and
Washington DC. These ensembles, including Jazz and Concert, have received
numerous superior ratings and have won numerous Grand Championships. In
2018 Mr. Bussey retired from Ware County Schools. 


After being in full retirement for one year, the 2019-2020 school year found
Mr. Bussey at Camden County High School as the associate Director of Bands and
Jazz Band director! He conducted the 9 th grade band and the concert band as both
groups received superior ratings at their LGPE! The 2020-2021 school year found
Mr. Bussey at Ware County Middle School as Choral Director. Since the fall of 2021
Mr. Bussey has been the founding Director of Bands at Scintilla Charter Academy
in Valdosta, Ga. After only 7 months his group received their 1st of many superior
ratings.


Mr. Bussey graduated “senior superlative” from Lowndes High School in
1984 where he was a GMEA all-state chorus member and District 8 Honor Band
member. During his senior year, Albert served as Drum Major for the multi-
champion “Georgia Bridgeman”. He graduated from Valdosta State University in
1988 with a Bachelor of Music Education. While at VSU he served as the first black
Drum Major in the school’s history for two years, sang in the concert, chamber

and gospel choirs and was a 1 st  chair trombone player in both the concert and jazz
bands at one point. Mr. Bussey graduated from Troy University with a Masters in
Secondary Education in 2009. He is also a graduate of St. Thomas Christian
University with a Doctor of Divinity in 2019.


He is currently a certified Music Educator K-12 in the state of Georgia. Mr.
Bussey is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association of which he has
served as the State Multi-cultural Chair, District 8 Band and Jazz Chairs and has
been a guest columnist for Georgia Music News.


Under Mr. Bussey’s direction, in 2014 and 2017 the Advanced Symphonic
Band at Ware County was selected to play at the prestigious Kennesaw State
University Concert Band Invitational. Mr. Bussey has also been honored to be a
guest conductor at jazz and concert band events: 2010 GAJE, 2011 Dekalb All
County 9-10 Honor Band, 2015 US Army Field Band, 2017 GMEA Dist. 2 and 2025
GMEA South Georgia Middle School Region Band. He is regularly called upon to
judge throughout the state at marching and LGPE events.


He is the Founder, Presiding Bishop and CEO of Victory Temple Bible Believers
Fellowship, Inc. in Waycross, Ga. He is, since 1988, very happily married to the
former Crystal Norman of Dixie, Ga. They have four adult children Albert III
(Stacey), Anthony, Andrew and Amber who attends Georgia College and State
University in Milledgeville, Ga.
