Dr. Robert Grogan
Dr. Robert Grogan is the Director of Bands at Barber Middle School in Cobb County, Georgia, where he has led the band program to remarkable growth, now boasting over 400 students. Under his leadership, the Barber MS Honors Band has achieved national and regional acclaim. This year, the band was invited to perform at the Georgia Music Educators' Association In-Service Conference and the CBDNA / NBA Southern Conference in Tampa, FL. In December 2024, they were a featured performing ensemble at the University of Georgia MidFest. The Barber MS Band was recognized as a national winner of the William P. Foster Award for Excellence in 2022 and received an invitation to perform at the prestigious Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 2020. Additionally, the Honors Band has been invited five times to the MFA Regional Concert Band Festival (2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2025). In 2016, the Wind Symphony was honored as the guest band at the University of Alabama Band Clinic.
Prior to his tenure at Barber, Dr. Grogan was the Director of Bands at Willowcreek Middle School and the Assistant Director of Bands at Lehi High School in Utah. At Willowcreek, the Wind Symphony performed at the State Band Festival in 2012, and during his time at Lehi High, the marching band won back-to-back state championships in 2010 and 2011. Dr. Grogan also conducted the Lehi Community Band and performed with the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds. In 2015, he performed with the Tara Winds at the Midwest Clinic and is currently an active saxophonist with the Cobb Wind Symphony.
Dr. Grogan is highly sought after as a clinician and adjudicator. He serves as the Band Professional Learning Lead for the Georgia Department of Education and has chaired the LGPE Adjudication Committee for the Georgia Music Educators Association. In December 2023, he presented at the renowned Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. He is a five-time recipient of the NBA Citation of Excellence and was a 2016 National Quarter-Finalist for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year. He is published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, and School Band and Orchestra.
Dr. Grogan holds a Ph.D. in music education from Auburn University, a master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree from Columbus State University. As a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he performed with the Albany Marine Band during his service.
